SILHOUETTE

Allow the inner bones, quality and history to shine through the revitalised skin.

The aim of this project was to take a Grade II listed utilitarian building in Nottingham and adapt it to suit the new masterplan for the area along with the community local to the area. Flo skatepark was looking to fill the space as a new home for the strong Skateboarding culture of Nottingham and as a home for national skateboarding at Olympic level.

The design allows for the existing skin of the building to be reinforced this would then be covered by a contemporary and practical logia on both sides which allows circulation and functionality outside of the main space. The key aspect comes at dusk. As many of the users attend the building during the evening and winter when outdoor areas are less available the lights from in will highlight the original features of the Victorian rail shed. Not only is the history preserved but integrated into a programme that allows change throughout time and date.
