Atelier Regolith
Contextual Architects
Ben Smallwood
Partner + Site Director
Along with the other directors I completed both my RIBA part 1 and 2 qualifications at Nottingham Trent University. During my first year in industry I got the chance to work with Snøhetta in Oslo, Norway. Learning and training in Scandinavia gave me a great knowledge in construction using natural materials, as well as how to respect and enhance your landscape. Snøhetta is a world leader at the forefront of carbon positive design and Atelier Regolith aims to follow in this path with its projects.

When completing my part 3 qualification the tough the Architectural Association and Williams Griffiths architects in London I took the time to travel to experience different cultures views on the landscape as well as volunteering to design and construct sustainable spaces in unstable geographical areas facing regular natural disasters.

Although I took longer to qualify than I originally thought due to these constructive and inspiring tangents I feel that I would not be in the position to create the outstanding designs we do.

Focuses: Conceptual design, materiality, detail and tectonics.
