Yesterday, Saturday 6th November hundreds of people marched through Nottingham to stand up to climate injustice after the COP26 summit a few weeks ago. This is just one of many protests around the country, trying to show the government that a faster change is needed. The march was organized by the COP26 coalition for climate injustice and passed through many of Nottingham’s busiest areas such as the Forest Recreation ground and the Market Square (Zagnat, O. 2021).

Many people seemed to hold the current government to blame:

“We need a change in our economy and with the current people pulling the strings I find myself wondering if we should take the revolutionary route instead.” (Guy Jones (former Nottingham Green Party Chairman), 2021)

Miles, 55, said: “The COP26 was again a lot of blah blah and no action.

“Boris Johnson has done nothing once again.” (Zagnat, O. 2021)

This rally proves that a lot of people do not think the current government is handling the climate crisis in the right way, and so have taken it into their own hands to show their concern on a large scale. This is a concern that is shared all over the UK, with thousands rallying to protest in major cities like Glasgow and London, the locations of COP26 and the houses of Parliament.

Many people brought their children along, to show them that they tried to do something to make a difference whilst they still could- one man wore a sign saying “the end is nigh” (Hughes, T. 2021).

Asad Rehman, spokesman for the Cop26 Coalition, said: “Many thousands of people took to the streets today on every continent demanding that governments move from climate inaction to climate justice.”(Hughes, T. 2021).

“We won’t tolerate warm words and long-term targets anymore, we want action now.” (Hughes, T. 2021)

These marches show that there is a strong tension between climate activists and the government right now with the thousands feeling failed by the government and left worrying for their future. This tells us as a company that there are thousands of people who will support us as a carbon neutral business because of our environmentally friendly ethos. This gives us the edge compared to other companies as people who share the same values as us will choose to give us their business.
