Cork…the all-rounder?

Imogen Bennett

Have you heard about Cork?!

Cork is a 100% natural, renewable and recyclable material used for various applications from wine bottle caps to insulating flooring panels in homes! In fact, it is so versatile it can be used in almost every element of the build, as seen in Studio Barks ‘Cork Studio’ (insert hyperlink to website). Not only is cork environmentally friendly and extremely versatile, it also has great thermal and acoustic properties making it a wonderful tool to create pleasurable homes.

Cork is a fully sustainable and environmentally friendly resource thanks to its unique nature of its gathering, in which the Bark of the Cork Oak tree is stripped. This can happen multiple times over the trees 200–300-year lifetime, each time absorbing more Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere to aid with the bark regeneration process; in fact, it is estimated that Cork forests absorb and retain 14 million tonnes of Carbon Dioxide each year thanks to Cork harvesting!
