Discussion -

We discussed what our ethos could be and USP for our practice.

USP Points – Reducing Homelessness, Popup microstructures, low impact, adaptability.

We want to target homelessness in Nottingham and help reduce it. We also decided to start by researching different topics to help guide us in what our ethos could be.

5 different research points

  • Homelessness in Nottingham – statistics, particular areas of Nottingham that are affected, relates to social sustainability. UN SDGs (maybe use 'streetcheck'?) Amnah

  • 2028 Expectations – Carbon neutral action plan Imi

  • Nottingham – low impact locally sourced materials, and sustainable microstructures Louis

  • Other firms – how they’re developing and projections for future Elliot

  • Precedent studies for homelessness reduction Tommy

Roundtable -

Individual Tasks:

Louis – Research Nottingham and sustainable microstructures

Elliot – website design basics (theme etc - Imogen will do the basic page set up), research other firms and future projections

Imogen – a timeline for project/ weekly task deadlines, meeting minutes, start website blog & week one of the internal blog, research 2028 expectations, and Nottingham carbon-neutral plan, set up Instagram page, website basics (set up pages & Elliot can design).

Tommy – Research homelessness reduction projects.

Amnah – Research homelessness in Nottingham and UN SDGs.

TASKS FOR EVERYONE:

  1. Fill out these questions:

If you believe people will continue to ask architects to perform their traditional design functions, consider what the built environment will (or ought) to look like six years from now:

  • What kinds of practice will be the most likely to thrive in the context of future circumstances?  What kinds of technology will they be using?

  • What roles might usefully be played in the future by people with a background in architecture-related skills and knowledge?  What will they be able to do that others may not?

  • What additional skills and knowledge will need to be developed by architects planning to meet the needs of the future?  What kinds of experience will they find useful?

  • What approaches could (or should) creative industries adopt to ensure survival to the end of the century (or beyond)?  What will be their biggest challenges?

  • What new questions or new issues will need to be addressed in the next decade?  And how?  What opportunities might these present for creative practitioners?

  • Or what existing questions or issues will need to be addressed in new ways?  And again, how?

 â€‹

   2. Brainstorm name ideas for the practice & logo ideas.

   3. Think of some questions to ask Tommy’s mum relating to homelessness.

Discussion

We spent the session thinking of our personal SWOTs and then combining them to create a practice SWOT analysis and help us decide what our practice is good at and could improve on.

We still need to think of a name and also have ethos ideas ready for the week.

One name was “untitled architects” and leaving our personal names out of it. So we should consider names similar to that.

Roundtable -

Each does a SWOT analysis and personal profile for the 'about us' section & takes a selfie for the website.
