Earlier today I was scrolling through the net doing some research needed for a project here at Pacha Studios when I came across this interesting page about using locally sourced materials that I thought would be interesting to share with you guys.

As we all know, sustainability is more important now in architecture than it has ever been. The carelessness over the years has added up and immediate action is needed to be taken. There are many ways to design and construct a building sustainably. Using locally sourced materials is one of them. This reduces the carbon footprint produced and the need for travel which is a big aspect during the construction process. If all materials are internationally sourced, this will have a great impact on the environment due to transportation. It is also important to make sure that the locally sourced materials are reusable, recyclable, and don’t have an impact on the environment.

As well as being sustainable, it is also a lot more efficient. The closer the production and distribution to the site, the faster it is to access materials. This can include same-day delivery at times of an emergency. It is often cheaper to get locally sourced materials as there is a lot saved during transport. This allows for the architects to reduce the overall cost of the project.

At Pacha studios, we are all about building sustainable communities. We use many different strategies to make sure that we have a small carbon footprint and are always thing of ways to have zero one day. We have contacts with many suppliers across the nation to ensure that we are prepared for any upcoming projects.

That’s all for this week’s blog. I thought it would be interesting to share with you all as sustainability is currently the hot topic within architecture at the moment.
