Hybrid Housing

Recently I had undertook a project to design a hybrid building. The client was interested in including an accommodation space, and space for performing arts and practicing. The site was located close to the popular student’s night club NG ONE. On site there was a concrete based structured storage unit. For sustainability purposes I decided to keep this structure and use the concrete grid system to complete the rest of the building. within this project I had successfully designed a hybrid building that would also build a strong community. The shared spaces and apartment layout was designed to get neighbours to get to know each other and along with them. Around the corner was the Sneinton market. Over the years the use of this has started to die down, that why with the design of this accommodation, there will be a lot more people moving in the area which will also make use of these markets. There are two parts to this accommodation. The other half houses a ‘loose fit’ market stall on the ground floor. Again, these stalls are performing arts related. The idea of keeping this ground floor a loose-fit floor allows for any change within the future without having to structurally change the building. community is a very important aspect when it comes to my designs, therefore working for Pacha Studios is the right place for me as I can spread my knowledge with the rest.

This project was produced by Sharaaz.
