PESTEL – Social Aspects.
How architecture affects individuals socially.
Architecture has been seen as a representation of society for almost as long as it has existed, reflecting the values of an individual, success, and eventual downfall of civilisation. The monumental structures, residence and buildings are the fabrication of the city. Architecture tells us stories and allows us to learn about who the people were that occupied the space long before our time. The way a building is designed affects our capabilities. It is shown that people who work in well-designed spaces are more focused, take less sick leave, and contribute more to their work. This is all due to the positive impact that is received through the well-lit, spaced, and structures. Places that have not been designed very well, with bland architecture, poor lighting, and uncomfortable room heights cause higher levels of stress.

Architect’s use of Social media.
Social media is used within architect firms for growth. Social media is the most common form of business growth within our generation. It promotes dialogue among peers as well as providing a platform for showcasing images and visual inspirations. It can also be used as a portfolio for potential clients. It also allows architects to spread their knowledge of architecture and behind the scenes by updating regular updates and news. It can be used both as a formal and an informal approach to promotion. The best bit about it is that you can update it from the start of a project till the very end. This will have a different social effect on individuals who follow the journey as they will know the thoughts and processes that went through the projects. The use of polls can help make decision making easier as well as involving your followers.

Architectural Social Sustainability.
Social sustainability is a combination of the physical environment with a focus on how the people who live in and use a space relate to each other and function as a community. It is improved by development that provides the correct organisation to support a strong social and cultural life, opportunities for people to get involved, and plan for the place and a community to evolve. Regulations are put in place specifically to make sure that whatever architect’s design are designed for comfort and safety of the users. The built environment sustains us socially.
